At our meeting this past week, Tom Creech of the London-based ski group, London Track 3, told us about the organization he volunteers for.

Track 3 operates a six-week downhill skiing program for children and young adults with mental and physical challenges at Boler Mountain in London. The students are on the slopes for about 2 hours per session per week.

This past season about 85 students and 175 instructors took to the slopes, starting in January. The London Track 3 program is the largest program of its type in Ontario and has been operating at Boler since 1987.

Volunteers design a program about the abilities of the student. There is at least 1 volunteer per student and usually 2.

Tom brought several pieces of equipment, including a sit ski (a plastic chair, mounted to an aluminum frame and 2 skis) which allows individuals who normally use a wheelchair or canes, to ski.

He also talked about Boler Mountain and plans to double the hill's height and skiable terrain.

Tom is to be commended for all the volunteer work that he does, when asked, he is usually ready to help as we well know because he is a known volunteer with our club also.

Thanking of our Guest speaker by Doug Vincent, Doug presented Tom with a certificate in Tom's name that our Rotary Club will send enough money to vaccinate 25 children against Polio.

Thank you Tom.
