District Governor, John Stairs and his wife Carol attended our meeting.

President Steve Halyk opened our meeting and asked a Rotary member at each table to introduce the guests. We had about 25 guests.
Sergeant at Arms, Nelson Simard fined Gary Honcoop for not knowing the names of the guests at his table, and Barry Koinhoff for not sitting with his wife.
Happy bucks were given by Paul Turner, for having had a good vacation in the Maritimes. By Doug Eckel for selling his property finally. By Truus Van Wees for Peter turning 75 years old.
The guest speaker this evening was our district governor John Stairs. Before he started his speech he awarded Doug Vincent with the District Governor Elect pin, and President Steve got a Centennial President pin, and a fridge magnet, which is part of a puzzle and has to be returned to the district conference. John also announced that the bell which he had brought to the meeting was to be raffled off. He was selling tickets at $100 per piece, with the proceeds going to the Rotary Foundation. Ilene Buchanen was thanked for her work as assistant district governor. Also Terry Hemsworth and Doug Vincent were thanked for all their work. Even though we are a small club, we have a great impact on the district and elsewhere.
The following points were made in John's speech:
-our club is a sustaining club, meaning that everyone has given $100.00 to the Rotary Foundation.
-The shoebox program became a large project, thanks to it being started at our club, by Doug Vincent.
-In February of 2005, Rotary is 100 years old!
-Rotary promotes the following project: prenatal care, blindness, aids awareness, and polio clinics.
-more than 1 billion people lack access to safe water all over the world
-The four aims for Rotary are: Health, Family, Literacy, Water
-Largest increase per capita giving is in Zone 22
-Some things that John suggested for our Rotary Club:
-Encourage family to come out to the meetings
-Make up a newsletter, and then distribute it to visitors and also with other clubs
-Public service announcements should be used more often
-Celebrate and promote Rotary
-Encourage members to make up meetings at other clubs
-3%net membership growth targeted in this district
These are some of the points that John touched on. He was thanked by Keith Sherman.
