This evening we were without a speaker, but had some important topics to decide on.
President Paul spoke about our Rotary District 7080 and the need for it to be incorporated, to safeguard against Libel suits against individual members. This is a requirement brought forward by Rotary International. All clubs have to vote on this and a two thirds majority wins. After discussing the topic at length, it was the majority opinion that it does not harm anyone and it past with a majority.

Next was a presentation of two International projects< 1st: Hermosillo, Mexico. Breast cancer screening equipment and education of self-examinations.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in Mexico and the leading cause of death in the State of Sonora, which is the State of Hermosillo.
This project is mostly run by breast cancer survivors( all volunteers) 2nd: Philippines, to assist street children through education and mentoring to be free of poverty.

Both projects were discussed and it was decided that we would support the Hermosillo breast cancer project. The discussion also brought forward the possibility to ask another club to join us with this project, but later was decided it would possibly take too much time, because most clubs already have their projects lined up. The project needs about $5000.00 U.S. to make it work for the Matching Grant Application, which in turn will top it up to $18314.00 U.S.
Our club budgeted $3000.00 Can. for this year and it was decided that we would fold the project into 2 years, with the year end being June 31 2007.
Rick Kiers personaly donated $100.00 to this project and challenged other members to do follow. 3 or 4 other people followed his example and the offer is still open to anyone who wants to join this challenge.
Meeting adjourned at 8 P.M.
