This was a special evening because Kevin Clarke was inducted into the membership of the Woodstock-Oxford Rotary Club.

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and in particular, to encourage and foster:

First: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

Second: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

Third: The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his personal, business and community life.

Fourth: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

I charge you to judge yourself by the Rotary Four-Way Test of the things you think, say or do:

First Is it the Truth?

Second Is it fair to all concerned?

Third Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

Fourth Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

It's always nice to witness the induction of new members and be reminded of why we each chose to join Rotary. Welcome Kevin!

Our guest speaker tonight was a video sent by snail mail to us by Rotarians in Scotland. You may remember a group of Rotarian Curlers from Scotland visited us and toured Eastern and Southwestern Ontario. They were a blast and created this video.

It's sort of like looking through a peep hole of their tour through Ontario. This opportunity of participating as a curler in this trip is a unique one, and it is hard to secure a spot on this tour. There will be a tour going from Canada to Scotland in the future, and if we give up our seat on this tour, we may never get a chance to participate again. As a Rotarian, you may only participate in this journey once in a lifetime. As one of the stars on the video said "you will never experience feelings like this again in your life". This is just another perk of being a Rotarian and our travelling opportunities we have world wide because Rotary is an international Service Club.

If you would like to join us for a meeting to see what Rotary is about, there's nothing like the present. We would love to have you as a guest. We meet each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm at the Quality Hotel in Woodstock. Our meeting includes dinner and concludes at 8pm. You can contact myself Jantine at jtstam@hotmail.com if you have any questions.
