President Pieter shared information regarding the Mexico project with the Rotary Club of Hermosilio Mileno.  The contributing amount from us as the Sponsor Club has been revised to "up to CDN $3000.00."  A motion was made by Paul Bradford (seconded by Rama Murthi) to accept the proposal for this international project up to CDN $3000.00.  The motion passed.

There was a brief discussion regarding the upcoming Fish Fry on April 29, 2006 and Garry Honcoop requested a meeting with committee members following this meeting.

Our guest speaker was Joe Penton, Executive Director of the Oxford County Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association.  Joe spoke about mental health and mental illness and the signs and symptoms of mental illness.  There is a need for the CMHA and their services as 1 in 5 people has a mental health problem and that statistic increases to 1 in 3 when addictions are included.  It is estimated that $30 billion is lost to the Canadian economy due to mental health problems and addictions.  The CMHA provides two main programs:  a support & treatment team and volunteer & education.  The support and treatment team includes crisis response, case management, life skills training and housing.  Volunteer and education includes a board of directors, clerical support, special events, community education and information, referrals, and a suicide bereavement support group.  The CMHA works to remove the stigma about mental illness and to break down barriers in order to make assistance readily available.
