Barry Howie, guest speaker provided an interesting presentation on Rotary Foundation which fulfills four basic cornerstones.

Polio eradication: as of today only 4 countries left where efforts continue. 2009-2010 before declared fully eradicated.  More than $600 Million dollars U.S. contributed to program through Rotary.  The G8 countries will be picking up the majority of the shortfall required to finish program.  Program has vaccinated nearly 2 billion children.

Permanent Fund: created an endowment the principle of which is never spent but the interest each year turned over to the World Fund.  Currently sitting at 195 million.  Goal was 200 million but increased to 400 million. Members of the Bequest Society â¿¢ agree to leave a certain amount of money to the fund on your death, insurance policies and a variety of other options.  This fund will be critical to the Rotary in years ahead.

Restricted Giving: when a club donates money to any project anywhere, that money is considered restricted and does not go into the annual fund.

Annual Fund: any monies donated as unrestricted returns 50% to District designated funds.  Ambassadorial and peace scholarships provided through the annual fund.

Barry encouraged each member to give $100 US to Rotary Foundation and the club would then match this amount.

Next Week speaker: Greg Visser from Operation Sharing.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
