Rotary Club of Woodstock-Oxford Donates $2000.00 to Polio Plus.

Rotary Club of Woodstock-Oxford launched their Drive for Polio Eradication Campaign to raise funds for Polio Plus on July 30, 2008. The objective of the project is to promote awareness in the community regarding Rotary's involvement with Polio Eradication and to raise funds for the $100 million dollar Gates Foundation Challenge Grant.

"Rotary club and Rotarian participation in this effort is crucial to making it a success. Each club is being challenged to organize a public fundraising event to raise a minimum of $1,000 annually for the next three years."

The fundraising process for our project consisted of selling two golf balls bearing the rotary logo along with golf tees which were enclosed in an attractive package.  Each golf ball represented one dose of Polio Vaccine which was communicated to those who purchased the product and donated to the cause.

The fund raising process for this project far exceeded our initial expectation. More than 600 sleeves of golf balls sold in less than a month. We believe Rotary involvement was a driving factor in getting people to contribute to the Polio cause along with the fact that donators actually received a pleasant and useful gift in return for their thoughtful donation, rather than a simple raffle ticket. Others compassionately donated the $5 but told us to keep the balls since they did not golf.

Woodstock Oxford Rotary Club Selling Golf Balls to Fight Polio

Written by Jeff Johnson

Sidewalk Days is underway here in Woodstock and there's plenty for you to see and do, including supporting a worthy cause.

The Woodstock Oxford Rotary Club will be selling golf balls to help rid the world of Polio.

Rama Murthi is with the Rotary Club and is the brains behind the golf all drive.

He says the idea has been a hole in one with Woodstock residents. Just yesterday, the Rotary Club sold 200 sets of golf alls for the cause.

You can pick up a set of golf balls for 5 dollars every day at Sidewalk Days.

Woodstock Sentinel Review:

Rupa Murthi, right, and Helen Narancsik sell golf balls during Sidewalk Days for the Woodstock Oxford Rotary Club. Each sleeve of golf balls cost $5 which will immunize two children against polio. Rotary International recently announed a partnership witht he Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that will inject US $200 million into the global effort to eradicate polio. Rotary International has pledged to match, dollar for dollar, a $100 million grant from the Gates Foundation.
